Surveys are one of the cheapest ways to find out what your customers think before you spend money on a new product, a store refit or a price change. Mailpro’s survey builder lets Australian businesses, schools, clubs and not-for-profits create surveys without code, send them to their existing lists and see the results as they arrive.
Surveys Australian organisations run
- Customer satisfaction after a purchase, a service call or a stay. See our customer satisfaction survey page.
- Post-event feedback for conferences, festivals, workshops and sporting events.
- Member surveys for clubs, associations and industry bodies, often ahead of an AGM.
- Parent and student surveys for schools, typically at the end of a term.
- Market research before launching in a new state or city.
- Staff engagement surveys for teams across several sites.
Building a survey in Mailpro
Choose question types such as multiple choice, rating scales, open text and dropdowns. Use branching logic to show follow-up questions only to people who need them, for example asking what went wrong only when someone gives a low score. You can customise the design to match your brand. Our guide on how to create an online survey walks through each step.
Sharing it
- Send it in an email campaign to your subscribers. See share a survey by email.
- Embed it on your website.
- Send a short link by SMS, with an opt-out if the message has any promotional content.
- Print a QR code for receipts, counters or event programmes.
Timing for Australian audiences
Avoid the Christmas to late-January period, when many Australians take extended leave and response rates tend to fall. For B2B surveys, avoid the last two weeks of June, when businesses are busy with EOFY. Schedule email invitations by time zone so each state receives them during the working day.
Surveys and the rules
A survey invitation that is purely research is not usually a commercial message under the Spam Act 2003. But if it includes a promotion, such as a discount for completing it, or promotes your business, treat it as commercial: send only to people who have consented, identify yourself and include an unsubscribe.
Survey answers are often personal information. If the Privacy Act 1988 applies to your business, tell respondents why you’re collecting their answers and how you’ll use them, and avoid sensitive topics such as health unless you really need them. Offer anonymous responses where you can. Mailpro stores survey responses in Switzerland on private infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction, and never sells or rents them.
Keeping response rates healthy
Surveys compete for attention with everything else in the inbox. Keep them short, say up front how long they take, and explain what you will do with the answers. For customers, a small thank-you such as an entry into a prize draw can help, but check any state-based rules on trade promotions before you run one. Above all, don’t survey the same people too often: a quarterly pulse survey is usually plenty for a customer list.
Reading the results
Mailpro’s survey statistics show response counts, completion rates and answers by question in real time. You can export responses to a spreadsheet for deeper analysis, or segment respondents by state or customer type to see where opinions differ.
In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rated ease of use 9.3/10. You can start with 500 free credits.
