When a guest books a room in Negril, a customer pays a bill online or a remittance is ready for collection, the confirmation email should arrive within seconds, without anyone pressing “send”. An email API makes that possible: your application calls Mailpro, and Mailpro delivers the message. This page explains how Jamaican developers and software teams use it, and what to consider under local data protection law.

Typical uses in Jamaica

  • Hospitality: booking confirmations, pre-arrival details and receipts from a hotel or villa booking engine.
  • E-commerce: order confirmations, shipping updates and password resets for online shops selling on the island and to the diaspora.
  • Financial services: account alerts, statements ready for download and one-time codes for banks, credit unions and money-transfer services. See how banks use Mailpro.
  • BPO and software providers: contact-centre and outsourcing firms, and local software houses, can embed email sending into platforms they build for overseas clients.
  • Education: enrolment confirmations and results notifications from school and university portals.

What the Mailpro API covers

Mailpro offers three APIs: an Email API for sending messages and retrieving results, a CRM API for managing contacts and lists, and an SMS API for text messages. Every transactional send returns an identifier you can use to check its delivery status, and webhooks can notify your system when a message is delivered or bounces. Statistics can also be pulled into your own dashboards, as explained on the email API statistics page.

API or SMTP?

If your software already sends email through SMTP, for example a WordPress site or an accounting package, switching the SMTP settings to Mailpro is often the fastest option. If you are building a new application or need detailed tracking per message, the API is usually the better fit. Our comparison of API vs SMTP goes into detail.

Data protection for developers

Transactional emails carry personal data: names, addresses, order details and sometimes financial information. Under Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, 2020, you must keep that data secure and only transfer it to countries that ensure adequate protection. Mailpro processes and stores data in Switzerland, on private infrastructure outside US jurisdiction, and encrypts connections with TLS 1.3. Switzerland’s EU adequacy decision makes the protection level easy to document.

A second point: a transactional email should stay transactional. If you add promotions to an order confirmation, the message may count as direct marketing, which under the Act requires consent or an existing customer relationship with a clear opt-out. Keep marketing in separate, consent-based campaigns.

Deliverability

Transactional messages must reach the inbox, not spam. Authenticate your sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC before going live, and use a recognisable sender name. Test with Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo accounts, since many of your customers, on the island and abroad, use them.

Documentation and resources for developers

All the technical documentation of the Mailpro APIs lives on the developer portal: Email API v2, CRM API v3 and SMS API, described endpoint by endpoint (OpenAPI), in English and five other languages.

  • Delivery tracking of transactional emails — every single send returns an identifier; GET /Send/{id}/Status tells you whether it is queued, sent, delivered, deferred or bounced. In detail.
  • Webhooks — three directions: Mailpro notifies you (email delivered, bounce, new contact…), your automations call your tools, an external tool triggers an automation. The three types of webhooks · reference.
  • Frequently asked questions — authentication, limits, attachments, Zapier / Make / n8n: API & Webhooks FAQ.
