Some emails should not wait for a marketer to press “send”. When a guest books a room in Bequia, pays for a ferry ticket online or resets a password on a Kingstown retailer’s website, the confirmation needs to arrive in seconds. That is the job of an email API: your application calls Mailpro, and Mailpro delivers the message.

Who uses an email API in SVG

  • Tourism tech: booking engines for hotels, villas, charter fleets and dive shops that send confirmations, pre-arrival details and invoices.
  • E-commerce and delivery: online stores and diaspora gift services that send order confirmations and shipping updates to customers abroad and at home.
  • Financial services: credit unions and insurers that send statements, alerts and one-time notices.
  • Software developers and agencies: local studios building apps and websites for clients across the Eastern Caribbean.
  • Schools and membership bodies: registration confirmations, fee reminders and portal notifications.

What the Mailpro API does

The Mailpro API is a REST interface. With it you can send individual transactional emails or campaigns, manage contacts and lists, and retrieve statistics. It works from any language that can make an HTTPS request, so it fits a PHP website, a Node.js app or a Python back end equally well. Full reference material is in the developer documentation.

Messages can use templates you design in Mailpro’s editor, with personalised fields filled in from your application: the guest’s name, arrival date, booking reference or balance due.

Know what happened to every message

Transactional email is only useful if it arrives. Mailpro reports each message’s status, and webhooks can push delivery, bounce and click events back to your system in real time. The FAQ on delivery status for transactional email explains the statuses, and webhook types lists what you can receive. Our page on API statistics shows how to use them.

Deliverability starts with your domain

Send from your own domain and authenticate it with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. That matters more than ever now that Gmail and Yahoo apply stricter rules to bulk senders. A booking confirmation that lands in junk generates phone calls to the front desk and, sometimes, a lost guest. In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rated email deliverability 9.6/10.

Transactional messages, such as confirmations, receipts and password resets, are generally treated differently from marketing under laws like CAN-SPAM and CASL, provided they do not carry heavy promotional content. SVG has no dedicated email-marketing law, but the Cybercrime Act 2016 makes falsified headers and spoofed senders an offence, which is one more reason to send from a properly authenticated domain. If your system handles data about European customers, GDPR applies. Mailpro hosts data in Switzerland, outside US jurisdiction, with TLS 1.3 encryption, and never sells or rents it.

API or SMTP?

If your software can only send through an SMTP server, such as an older property management system or an accounting package, Mailpro’s SMTP relay is the simpler option. If you are building or customising an application, the API gives you more control. Our comparison of API vs SMTP helps you choose.

Designing messages people can use

Transactional email is read in a hurry, often on a phone at an airport gate. Put the essentials at the top: booking reference, dates, amount paid and the next step. For guests heading to the Grenadines, the next step might be a ferry or connecting flight, so link to clear travel information. State the currency for any amount, since visitors may pay in US dollars while local customers think in Eastern Caribbean dollars. Keep promotions to a small, clearly separate section, or leave them out entirely.

Timing and time zones

API emails go out when your system triggers them, but reminders and follow-ups can be scheduled. SVG stays on Atlantic Standard Time all year, so if you schedule a “day before arrival” message, calculate it in the guest’s time zone rather than yours.

Getting started

Create an account, generate an API key, authenticate your sending domain and send a test. Every account starts with 500 free credits, and pricing is based on the number of emails you send, not on the size of your contact list.
