Choosing a newsletter platform in Barbados is not quite the same as choosing one in London or Miami. Your list may double in the winter tourist season and shrink in September. Half your readers may be overseas. Your clients in the international business sector may ask where their data is stored. And since 31 March 2021, the Data Protection Act 2019 has set clear expectations on consent and overseas transfers. This page explains what to look for, and how Mailpro covers it.

Five questions to ask any provider

1. How am I charged?

Many platforms charge by the number of contacts stored, so a seasonal list costs you all year. Mailpro charges by sends, so you pay when you send, not for keeping last season’s guests on file. See pricing.

2. Where is my data hosted?

The Barbados Act restricts transfers of personal data abroad unless the destination offers adequate protection or appropriate safeguards. Mailpro is hosted in Switzerland, on private infrastructure outside US jurisdiction, in a country covered by an EU adequacy decision. Your data is never sold or rented.

3. Will my emails arrive?

Look for domain authentication, bounce handling and automatic unsubscribe management. In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rate email deliverability 9.6/10.

4. Can my team use it without training?

Small Barbadian teams rarely have a full-time email specialist. In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rate ease of use 9.3/10, and the interface is available in six languages.

5. Does it do more than email?

SMS, forms and surveys in the same account mean one contact list, one login and one bill.

Newsletter ideas by sector

Non-profits and churchesCommunity news, volunteer calls, hurricane-season relief appeals

How often should a Barbadian business send?

There is no single right answer, but some patterns work well:

  • Monthly for most small businesses, restaurants and professional firms. It is regular enough to be remembered and manageable for a small team.
  • Weekly or fortnightly for retailers with changing stock, and for event promoters during Crop Over season.
  • Quarterly for hotels writing to past guests, with extra sends before the winter season and around major events.
  • As needed for service updates during hurricane season, kept short and factual.

Whatever you choose, tell subscribers at sign-up, then keep to it. A sudden jump in frequency is one of the most common reasons people unsubscribe.

Measuring success

Track clicks, conversions and list growth rather than opens alone. Watch unsubscribes after each issue: a small, steady number is normal, but a spike after a particular campaign tells you something about its content or timing. Mailpro’s reports show all of this per campaign and per segment.

Stay compliant

Send only to people who opted in, identify your business, and make unsubscribing easy. Our guide to email marketing law in Barbados explains the Data Protection Act in plain terms.
