When a guest books a room in San Ignacio, a customer pays an invoice online in Belize City or an overseas client logs in to a trust company’s portal, they expect an email within seconds. Mailpro’s email API lets your software send that message itself, without anyone copying data into a newsletter tool. Your developers call the API and Mailpro handles delivery, tracking and bounces.
Typical uses in Belize
- Hotels, lodges and tour operators: booking confirmations, pre-arrival details for the water taxi or domestic flight to the cayes, and post-stay review requests sent from the reservation system.
- Online shops and distributors: order confirmations and dispatch notices. Under section 49 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2021, online sellers must give their legal name, address, contact details and refund terms, and a transactional template is an easy place to include them every time.
- Banks, credit unions and insurers: statement-ready notices, policy renewals and security alerts triggered by events in your core system.
- Offshore and professional services: document-request reminders and client-portal notifications that should not depend on someone remembering to send them.
What the API lets you do
Send individual and bulk emails
Send a single transactional message or a whole campaign using content from your application. Merge fields let you insert names, booking references, amounts in BZ$ or US$, and dates without writing a separate template for each case.
Retrieve statistics
Pull opens, clicks, bounces and delivery status back into your own dashboards. Our page on API email statistics for Belize explains which metrics matter for different message types.
Keep contacts and lists in sync
Create and update contacts from your CRM or booking engine so your marketing lists always reflect real customers. Contacts can be added to lists automatically when they book, buy or click, which feeds automated email sequences without manual imports.
Add SMS when email is too slow
The same platform offers an SMS API. Use it for boat-schedule changes, one-time codes or storm updates, sent to +501 mobiles or to visitors’ home numbers in international format.
API or SMTP?
If your software already sends email through a mail server setting, the SMTP relay may be the quicker fix. If you are building something new, or you want delivery status and contact management in code, the API is the better choice. We compare the two in email API vs SMTP.
Going live, step by step
- Authenticate your sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, so that confirmations from yourlodge.bz or yourshop.com are trusted by mailbox providers.
- Generate API credentials in your Mailpro account and keep them on the server side, never in a public website script.
- Build your templates with merge fields for names, references, dates and amounts.
- Send test messages to Gmail, Outlook and a phone, and check how accents in Spanish names display.
- Switch on webhooks or status checks so failed deliveries are flagged, and a guest who did not receive a confirmation can be contacted another way.
Where your data goes
Every API call sends personal data (names, addresses, sometimes financial details) out of Belize. The Data Protection Act, 2021 asks businesses to make sure that data is adequately protected abroad. Mailpro processes and stores it on its own infrastructure in Switzerland, outside US jurisdiction, with TLS 1.3 in transit, and never sells or rents it. For the reasoning behind Swiss hosting, read why hosting location matters.
Documentation and resources for developers
All the technical documentation of the Mailpro APIs lives on the developer portal: Email API v2, CRM API v3 and SMS API, described endpoint by endpoint (OpenAPI), in English and five other languages.
