Not every email is a newsletter. A hotel’s booking engine sends confirmations, an accounting package sends invoices, a website sends password resets and contact-form alerts. These transactional emails matter more than any promotion, because when they fail, customers notice. An SMTP relay routes them through infrastructure built for delivery.
Why businesses in the Federation use a relay
- Local mail servers are hard to maintain. Running your own server means managing IP reputation, security updates and blacklists, a lot to ask of a small IT team on either island.
- Shared hosting mail often lands in spam. Website hosts share IP addresses among many customers, and one bad neighbour can hurt everyone.
- Your recipients are mostly abroad. A booking confirmation from Basseterre has to reach Gmail and Outlook inboxes in North America and Europe, which apply strict checks.
What Mailpro’s SMTP relay provides
- Standard SMTP credentials that work with most software, from booking engines to WordPress and accounting tools. Setup details are on the SMTP service page.
- Support for SPF, DKIM and DMARC, so receiving servers can verify the email really comes from your domain.
- Delivery logs and statistics, so you can prove a confirmation or invoice was delivered. See SMTP statistics.
- Encrypted connections with TLS 1.3, and data hosted in Switzerland on private infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction.
Typical uses on the islands
A hotel group with properties on St Kitts and Nevis routes all booking confirmations and pre-arrival details through one relay. A professional firm serving Citizenship by Investment clients sends document requests and status updates. A retailer’s online shop sends order and shipping confirmations. A school or training centre sends login details and timetable changes to students.
During hurricane season, from 1 June to 30 November, transactional emails often carry urgent changes: rebooked flights, cancelled tours, revised check-in dates. A dependable relay means those messages arrive when they are needed.
Setting it up
- Create SMTP credentials in your Mailpro account.
- Enter the server, port and credentials in your booking engine, website or accounting tool.
- Add SPF and DKIM records to your domain’s DNS, and a DMARC policy once they are working.
- Send test messages to Gmail and Outlook addresses and check they land in the inbox.
- Watch the statistics during your first busy week.
Transactional email and the law
Service messages that a customer needs, such as a receipt or a booking confirmation, are part of the contract. Under the Federation’s Data Protection Act, 2018, processing for the performance of a contract is one of the grounds that does not depend on marketing consent. Adding a promotion to those emails, however, turns them into marketing, so keep the two separate.
