New Zealand businesses and organisations run surveys for many reasons: a lodge asking guests about their stay, a sports club checking what members want from next season, an accounting firm measuring client satisfaction, an events team collecting feedback after a festival weekend. Mailpro’s survey builder lets you create those surveys, send them to your contacts by email and read the results in one place.

What you can build

  • Customer satisfaction surveys after a purchase, stay or service. Our customer satisfaction survey page shows ready-made approaches.
  • Member and community surveys for clubs, associations, iwi and hapū organisations, or school communities.
  • Event feedback after conferences, workshops, markets or Matariki celebrations.
  • Staff and volunteer surveys, where anonymity matters.
  • Quick polls embedded in a newsletter.

Features that make surveys easier

Writing surveys for a New Zealand audience

Use plain NZ English and keep surveys short; a five-minute survey gets far more complete answers than a twenty-minute one. If you ask demographic questions, follow local conventions: Stats NZ’s approach to ethnicity, for example, lets people identify with more than one ethnic group, so use checkboxes rather than a single choice. Always include a “prefer not to say” option for personal questions. If you use te reo Māori in the survey, make sure it is accurate and spelled with macrons.

Timing matters too. Avoid long weekends, school holidays and the Christmas to mid-January break, when many people are away and response rates drop.

Turning answers into action

A survey is only worth running if something changes as a result. Before you send, decide who will read the results and when. Afterwards, look for patterns in the ratings, then read the open comments in full; that is where the specific, fixable problems usually appear. Share a short “you said, we did” summary with respondents, whether that is a new weekend opening time or a change to how bookings work. People who see their feedback used are more likely to answer next time, and more likely to stay loyal.

Survey results can also feed your marketing. With the respondent’s consent, you can add people who said they are interested in a product to a segment and follow up with relevant information.

Survey responses tied to a name or email address are personal information under the Privacy Act 2020. Tell respondents at the start why you are asking, how answers will be used and whether they are anonymous (IPP 3), collect only what you need (IPP 1), and keep results secure (IPP 5). If you promise anonymity, do not ask for identifying details.

Sending survey invitations by email is also a question for the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Department of Internal Affairs guidance suggests that a follow-up satisfaction survey is not automatically treated as a transactional message, so send invitations to people who have agreed to hear from you, identify your business, and include an unsubscribe link. See email marketing law in New Zealand.

Mailpro stores survey data in Switzerland on private infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction, and never sells or rents it. Ready to build one? Follow our guide on how to create an online survey.
