An SMS works on any mobile phone, with or without data or an app. That makes it one of the most reliable ways to reach people in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, whether they use Digicel or Flow, and to reach visitors on their home numbers before and after their trip. Mailpro lets you send text messages from the same account as your emails.
What Grenadian businesses send by SMS
- Reminders: appointments, reservations, tour pick-up times and school events.
- Time-sensitive offers: a same-day lunch special, a last-minute room during Spicemas, a flash sale in St. George’s.
- Operational updates: closures and reopenings during hurricane season, ferry or event changes, weather-related notices.
- Confirmations: order received, payment confirmed, delivery on the way.
- Guest messages: welcome texts on arrival and a thank-you with a survey link after departure.
Numbers and formats
Grenada is part of the North American Numbering Plan. Local mobiles follow the format +1 473 XXX XXXX. Store numbers in full international format so messages reach both local phones and overseas guests with their own country codes. Our country code list helps when importing.
Sender name
You can set a sender name so recipients recognise your business. How an alphanumeric sender displays can vary by destination country and carrier, so send a test to Digicel and Flow numbers, and to any overseas networks you target, before a large campaign.
Keep it short and clear
A standard SMS holds 160 characters, and fewer if you use special characters or emoji. Put your business name first, the message second and a short link or reply option last. See our FAQ on SMS character limits.
Timing in Atlantic Standard Time
Grenada uses AST (UTC−4) all year. Send promotional texts during reasonable daytime hours; nobody wants an offer at 6 a.m. Use scheduled SMS so messages to overseas guests arrive in their daytime, not yours.
The rules
Grenada’s telecom operators are regulated by the NTRC within the ECTEL framework, but there is no Grenadian code specific to SMS marketing, and the Data Protection Act, 2023 is not yet in force. Treat consent as the rule anyway: ask permission, identify yourself and offer an easy opt-out, such as “Reply STOP.” Texts to US numbers fall under the TCPA, and to Canadian numbers under CASL, both of which require consent. Our FAQ on SMS laws and restrictions covers more countries.
Combine SMS with email
SMS is best for short, urgent messages; email is better for detail and images. Many Grenadian businesses use both: an email newsletter with the full offer, and a text reminder on the last day. Read about combining SMS and email.
Track delivery
SMS statistics show delivered, pending and failed messages per campaign, so you can clean invalid numbers. In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rated SMS deliverability 9.8/10.
Examples that work
- “[Café name]: today’s lunch special is fish broth and bakes, 11–2. Reply STOP to opt out.”
- “Reminder: your snorkel tour pick-up is tomorrow at 8:30 at your hotel lobby.”
- “We’re closed today due to the storm warning. We’ll text when we reopen.”
Each one is short, identifies the sender and serves the reader.
Pricing
You pay for the messages you send, with rates depending on the destination country. See SMS pricing, and read whether SMS campaigns are effective in Grenada.
