Yes. Before turning an automation on for your whole list, you can run it end-to-end on a single test contact — usually yourself. Open Mes Automatisations, hit Ajouter to build your workflow, then add a contact with your own email and phone, drop it into the list or condition your trigger watches, and watch the email or SMS arrive in your inbox. Once you are happy, you flip the switch to active for the real audience.

Best practice: always test from a real inbox you own, not just a preview. Previews skip your authentication setup, your unsubscribe block and the actual rendering on Gmail or Outlook.

Testing trigger by trigger

For a Subscribe to list trigger, add your test contact to the list. For a Tag added trigger, attach the tag to your test contact. For a Birthday or Specific date field trigger, temporarily set the date on the test contact to today, so the workflow fires within the day’s scheduled run. Once the message arrives, revert the date to your real value before activating the automation for everyone.

Heads up — once-per-day limit: the same contact can only fire the same automation once every 24 hours, and there is an extra 60-second cooldown on top. If your first test fired, a second attempt with the same contact and same workflow will be silently skipped. Use a different test contact, or wait a day, before retesting.

Why a real test send matters

The same reasons that test campaigns matter for newsletters apply to automation: you check the rendering across email clients, confirm personalization fields populate, see how the unsubscribe link looks, and catch broken links before a single real contact gets the message. For automations specifically, you also confirm the trigger condition fires the way you expect and any conditional steps (tag added, list joined) actually run.

From test to live

Once the test passes, delete the test trigger condition from your contact (remove the tag, restore the original date), then switch the automation to active. The real audience starts moving through the flow from the next eligible trigger event.

Test, then go live

Walk through the available triggers and actions before activating, and read the email automation definition for the full picture of what you are about to switch on.
