India is not one audience. A D2C skincare brand in Bengaluru, a fintech app in Mumbai, an edtech platform selling to parents in Lucknow and a SaaS company in Pune selling to customers abroad each need different messages, languages and channels. Mailpro gives all of them one place to send newsletters, automated emails, transactional messages and SMS, and to collect the data behind them with forms and surveys.

India also has an unusually large and mobile audience. DataReportal’s Digital 2025 India report counted 806 million internet users at the start of 2025 (55.3% of the population) and about 1.12 billion active cellular connections. Most of your subscribers will read your email on a phone, and many of them will also expect an SMS for anything urgent. Mailpro is designed for that combination.

What Indian teams use Mailpro for

  • D2C and e-commerce: festive-season sale announcements, back-in-stock alerts and order follow-ups, with automated emails that trigger on sign-up, birthdays or link clicks.
  • Fintech, banks and NBFCs: account notices, statements and product updates sent through the email API or SMTP relay, alongside carefully permissioned marketing.
  • Edtech and education: admission reminders, exam-season tips and course launches, with online forms to capture enquiries from students and parents.
  • IT services and SaaS: product newsletters, onboarding sequences and customer surveys for clients in India and overseas.

Built around India’s new privacy law

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) is now India’s main privacy law. The DPDP Rules were notified in November 2025 with an 18-month phase-in: the Data Protection Board of India was set up straight away, consent-manager provisions follow in November 2026, and most obligations for businesses apply from May 2027. Penalties under the Act can reach ₹250 crore for failing to protect personal data.

For email marketers, the practical message is simple: collect clear, specific consent, give a plain notice of what you will send, and make withdrawing consent as easy as giving it. Mailpro’s double opt-in, automatic unsubscribe handling and consent-friendly forms help you do exactly that. Our guide to email marketing law in India explains the DPDP Act, the IT Act 2000 and what they mean for your list.

SMS that respects TRAI’s rules

Commercial SMS in India runs under TRAI’s Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR 2018). Senders register their business entity, sender headers and message templates on an operator’s DLT platform, and promotional messages are filtered against each subscriber’s DND preferences. Mailpro lets you combine SMS with email in the same campaign plan, so an order confirmation can go by email and a delivery reminder by text. Read more on the SMS marketing in India page before you send to +91 numbers.

Speak to India in more than one language

English works for many professional audiences, but Hindi and regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada often perform better for consumer brands. Mailpro’s editor supports Unicode text, so you can build separate Hindi and English versions of a newsletter or segment by language preference. Our article on multilingual email marketing covers how to structure lists and templates for this.

Plan campaigns around the Indian calendar

The biggest sending moments in India are cultural rather than commercial. Republic Day (26 January) and Independence Day (15 August) are popular for national-themed offers. Holi arrives in March, Raksha Bandhan in August, and the festive season from Navratri and Durga Puja through Dussehra to Diwali drives the year’s biggest online sales. In 2026, Diwali falls on 8 November. Regional festivals such as Onam, Pongal and Durga Puja deserve their own segments rather than a one-size-fits-all blast.

India runs on a single time zone, IST (UTC+5:30), with no daylight saving time, which makes scheduling easier than in larger markets. Use Mailpro’s scheduled sending to hit your audience in the morning commute or late evening, and test both.

Why a Swiss platform makes sense for Indian data

Mailpro has been operating since 2001 (Mailpro by Maxony, Geneva). Your contact data is hosted in Switzerland on private infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction, and it is never sold or rented. Connections are encrypted with TLS 1.3, and the platform was built to meet GDPR from the ground up.

The DPDP Act allows personal data to be transferred abroad unless the Central Government restricts a specific country, so choosing where your data lives is a business decision you should make deliberately. Switzerland also holds an EU adequacy decision, which helps Indian companies that also email customers in Europe. Learn more in why Switzerland.

Getting started

You can open an account with 500 free credits and test every channel before you commit. Mailpro is priced by the number of sends, not by the size of your contact list, so a growing Indian list does not push you into a higher plan until you actually send more. The interface is available in six languages. In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rated email deliverability 9.6/10, SMS deliverability 9.8/10 and ease of use 9.3/10.
