Sending an email through an API is one call. Knowing what happened next is where the value lies. For a Ghanaian fintech, a failed OTP email means a customer stuck at sign-up. For an e-commerce platform, a bounced receipt means a support ticket. Mailpro’s API statistics give developers and product teams the visibility to catch those problems early.
Events you can track
- Accepted and delivered: the message was taken by Mailpro and then by the recipient’s mail server.
- Bounced: hard bounces (invalid addresses) and soft bounces (temporary issues).
- Opened and clicked: engagement signals, useful for verification links and notifications.
- Unsubscribed and complained: important for any marketing messages sent via the API.
Two ways to get the data
Query the API
Request the status of individual messages or aggregated statistics from your own code. See delivery status for the transactional email API.
Receive webhooks
Let Mailpro push events to your endpoint as they happen, so your app can flag a customer’s email as invalid, prompt them to update it, or trigger an SMS instead. The webhooks FAQ explains the event types.
Practical uses for Ghanaian teams
| Scenario | Statistic to watch | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Fintech onboarding | Verification email bounces | Prompt the user in-app to correct the address, or verify by SMS |
| E-commerce receipts | Delivery rate by domain | Check authentication if one provider underperforms |
| School or university portal | Password-reset clicks | If low, check spam placement and link expiry |
| Marketing via API | Unsubscribes and complaints | Review consent and frequency |
Reading results by mailbox provider
Recipients in Ghana use a mix of Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook addresses, plus corporate, government and university domains. Break your delivery and bounce figures down by receiving domain. If one corporate domain suddenly starts rejecting messages, the problem is often on their side, such as a full mailbox or a strict filter, and a quick call to the customer’s IT team solves it. If a major provider such as Gmail starts deferring mail, check your authentication records and complaint rate first.
Email and SMS as a pair
In Ghana, almost every customer has a mobile number even if their email is unreliable. A good pattern is to treat a hard bounce on a critical message, such as a statement or an OTP, as a trigger to fall back to SMS on the customer’s +233 number, then ask them in-app to update their email address. Because Mailpro sends both email and SMS, the logic can live in one integration.
Statistics and compliance
Unsubscribe events must be honoured in every system that sends marketing. Under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), people may object to direct marketing at any time, and the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) requires an option to cancel. Syncing unsubscribe webhooks into your CRM prevents a customer from opting out in one place and still receiving messages from another. Statistics data is stored on Mailpro’s Swiss infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction.
Build your own benchmarks
Rather than rely on global averages, track your own delivery, bounce and click rates by message type over a few months. Sudden changes then stand out. Mailpro’s real-time statistics help you spot them as they happen.
