Time is part of the test

A revision quiz is taken without pressure; a recruiting test or an exam is taken against the clock. In the quiz maker, one setting does it: the duration in minutes. Participants start when they are ready, see the time remaining, and their answers are submitted by themselves at the end.

From the click on “Start” to submission

BeforeA start page announces the duration; before the opening date, it shows when the quiz will open.
StartOn the click on “Start”, the server records the time and sets the end time.
DuringThe countdown stays visible; reloading the page doesn’t reset the time.
AlertA few minutes before the end (you choose how many), the participant is warned.
EndAnswers are submitted automatically, even if required questions were left empty.
AfterAn answer arriving after the end, past a short grace period, is flagged as late.
Settings

A duration, an alert, an opening date

Enter the duration in minutes and when to warn the participant. Add an opening date and time if needed, and shuffle the question order so two neighbors don’t get the same sequence.

Reliability

Time that can’t be cheated

The start and end times are set by the server on the click on “Start”. Reloading the page or changing the computer clock changes nothing: the countdown shown is just a reflection. To stop a candidate from starting again in another browser, reserve the quiz for a contact list.

Time up

Answers submitted on time

At zero, answers are submitted automatically, without blocking on a required question left empty. The score is calculated on what the participant answered, and an answer that arrives too late is flagged as late.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What happens when time is up?
The participant sees a message, and their answers are submitted automatically as they are, even if required questions were left empty. Points are calculated on what they answered.
Does the timer stop if the page is reloaded?
No. Time is counted by the server from the click on “Start”: reloading the page or changing the computer clock gives no extra time. On a quiz open to everyone, another browser starts a new attempt: reserve the quiz for a contact list to prevent that.
Can I warn participants before the end?
Yes. Choose how many minutes before the end the alert appears.
Can I time a survey or a form?
No, the timer is reserved for quizzes and exams, where time is part of the test.
How do I reserve a timed quiz for certain candidates?
Turn it into an exam: access reserved for a contact list, number of attempts per candidate and resumption of the attempt after a disconnection. See the online exam page.
