Why a progress bar?

Faced with a questionnaire that seems to have no end, many people give up. Split into short pages, with a bar that moves forward, the same questionnaire feels lighter: everyone knows where they are. In the survey builder, the bar turns on in one click as soon as the questionnaire has several pages.

How to split a questionnaire well

One page, one themeGroup questions that belong together: you, your usage, your opinion, your suggestions.
Short pagesThree to six questions per page: the bar moves often and respondents keep the pace.
Easiest firstStart with closed questions; keep open questions for the end.
No useless pagesWith conditional logic, skip pages that don’t concern the respondent.
Pages

A bar that moves with every page

Split the questionnaire into themed pages: the bar moves forward with each “Next”. Place it at the top or bottom; it takes your form’s main color.

Navigation

Buttons in your words

Rename “Next” and “Back”, and choose whether respondents can return to a page they have completed. For a quiz, disabling “Back” prevents changing an answer afterwards.

Checks

A complete page before the next one

Required questions are checked page by page: respondents see right away what is missing, instead of discovering it at the end.

Your next questionnaire can show how much is left.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

When does the progress bar appear?
As soon as the questionnaire has several pages and the bar is turned on. On a single page it has no purpose and is not shown.
Where can I place the bar?
At the top or bottom of the questionnaire. It takes your form’s main color.
Can I prevent going back?
Yes. Turn off the back button: respondents move forward page by page without revisiting their answers, which is useful for a quiz, for example.
Are required questions checked on each page?
Yes. Respondents only move to the next page once the page’s required questions are filled in, with a clear message about what is missing.
Can I change the button labels?
Yes: “Next” can become “Continue”, “Back” can become “Go back”, in the words of your choice.
