When a customer in Phoenix does not receive a password reset, or an order confirmation lands in spam during Cyber Monday, your support team hears about it within minutes. API statistics let you see those problems first. This page explains what Mailpro reports for messages sent through the email API and how US businesses can use that data.

What gets measured

  • Delivery status for each message, such as delivered or bounced. The full list is in our FAQ on transactional email delivery status.
  • Bounces, split into hard (invalid address) and soft (temporary issue such as a full mailbox).
  • Opens and clicks, useful for emails with a call to action such as “confirm your account”, bearing in mind that Apple Mail Privacy Protection can inflate opens.
  • Geographic data on where messages are opened, through geo-tracking.

Aggregated figures are available in your account through global statistics and detailed reporting.

Real-time events with webhooks

Instead of polling for results, you can have Mailpro notify your application when something happens. Mailpro’s three webhook types send events to an endpoint you control, so your system can, for example, flag a customer record when an address bounces or trigger an SMS fallback when an important email cannot be delivered. Setup is described in the webhook documentation.

What the numbers tell a US team

Bounce spikes

A sudden rise in hard bounces usually points to a sign-up form without validation, or a data import that introduced typos. Soft bounces concentrated at one mailbox provider can indicate throttling.

Delivery delays at peak

Volumes rise sharply for US retailers from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. Compare delivery times during those days with a normal week to see whether you need to spread non-urgent messages or move marketing sends to separate times.

Mailbox-provider rules

Gmail and Yahoo’s requirements apply to your domain as a whole. Transactional mail does not need an unsubscribe link, but high complaint rates on your marketing emails can affect the reputation of the same domain. Keep an eye on both streams.

Engagement with key actions

For emails that ask the recipient to do something, such as confirming an account or completing a payment, clicks matter more than opens. If fewer people click a verification link than usual, check whether the email is being filtered, whether the link works on mobile and whether the wording is clear.

A monthly review routine

  1. Check the overall delivery rate and investigate any drop.
  2. Export hard bounces and correct or remove those addresses at the source.
  3. Review click rates on key actions such as account confirmation.
  4. Confirm SPF, DKIM and DMARC are still passing after any DNS change.

Keep the data where it belongs

API logs contain customer email addresses and message metadata. With Mailpro, that information is hosted in Switzerland, outside US jurisdiction, and never sold or rented. For an overview of the API itself, see email API for US developers, or compare approaches in API vs SMTP.
