An effective campaign is one that achieves a specific goal for a specific group of people. That sounds obvious, yet many Saint Lucian newsletters try to do everything at once: announce a new menu, promote a wedding package, share hurricane-season policy and wish everyone happy holidays. Here is a method that keeps each send focused.

Step 1: Pick one goal

Write it down as a number. “Fill 20 rooms for the Jounen Kwéyòl weekend.” “Get 50 local sign-ups for the Independence Day sale.” “Collect 100 guest reviews after the winter season.” The goal decides the audience, the message and the metric.

Step 2: Choose the right segment

A Castries hardware store promotion means nothing to a couple in Manchester who honeymooned in Soufrière. Send it to local contacts only. Use Mailpro’s segmentation by tag, location, language or past behaviour so each group sees relevant offers.

Step 3: Clean the list

Remove hard bounces and addresses that have not opened anything in a year or more. Seasonal businesses often send a big campaign after months of silence, and that is exactly when bounce and complaint rates spike. A short re-permission email to dormant contacts in early autumn, before the winter season, protects your reputation.

Step 4: Write a subject line that earns the open

  • Be specific: “Two nights, sunset sail included, until 15 December” beats “Special offer”.
  • Use the place: “Back to the Pitons?” works on past guests because it is theirs.
  • Keep it under about 50 characters so it fits on a phone screen.

Mailpro’s guide to writing the ideal subject line has more examples.

Step 5: Design for the phone first

Most of your readers, local or overseas, will open on a mobile. Use a single column, large buttons and compressed images, because rural coverage and roaming data can be slow. Every Mailpro template is responsive, and the button builder makes calls to action easy to tap. Put the key message and button in the first screen.

Step 6: Personalise with care

A first name in the greeting is good; a reference to the guest’s last stay or their anniversary month is better. Mailpro’s personalisation fields pull these from your contact data. Check that fields are filled in; “Dear ,” undoes the effect.

Step 7: Send at the right time, then measure

Local sends: mid-morning or early evening AST on weekdays usually suit office workers and shift workers alike, but test your own list. Overseas sends: schedule by the recipient’s time zone. After sending, look at campaign statistics: opens are only indicative since privacy features on some devices inflate them, so judge success by clicks, replies, bookings and sales.

A worked example

A small guesthouse in Laborie wants to fill rooms in the quieter September and October period. Goal: 15 bookings. Segment: past guests from North America and Europe who stayed in winter, plus Caribbean guests who came for Carnival. Subject: “Laborie in October: quiet beaches, Creole Heritage Month.” Content: three photos, one paragraph on Jounen Kwéyòl in the south, one rate with a clear booking button, and an honest note on flexible changes during hurricane season. Send: Tuesday morning in each segment’s time zone. Follow-up: a reminder to non-clickers four days later.

Before you press send

  1. Is the sender name recognisable?
  2. Does every link work, including the booking engine?
  3. Is there a visible unsubscribe link and your business address?
  4. Did everyone on the list agree to hear from you?
