Many New Zealand businesses sell well beyond their own shores: wine and honey producers ship to Australia, Asia and North America, tourism operators market to visitors months before they arrive, and software companies sell subscriptions worldwide. For them, the useful question is not only “how did the campaign do?” but “how did it do in each market?”. Mailpro’s email API answers that by letting you download opening and click statistics by country for any campaign, straight into your own systems.
What you can retrieve
- Opens by country: how many recipients opened, when, and where the open came from, based on geolocation tracking.
- Clicks by country: which links were clicked, how often, and from which markets.
- Campaign-level results that match the global statistics shown in your Mailpro account, so the numbers in your dashboard and in the app agree.
Reading the data from a New Zealand base
Convert time zones before you judge timing. An email sent at 9 am NZST lands in Sydney at 7 am and in London the previous evening. If you compare hourly engagement across countries without converting, a strong market can look weak. When results suggest a better window, use scheduled sending to hit it.
Trust clicks more than opens. Apple Mail Privacy Protection and image proxies can register opens that no person made. Our definition of Apple Mail Privacy Protection explains the effect; for decisions, lean on clicks and the click-to-open rate.
Watch small numbers. A list segment of a few hundred readers in one country can swing several percentage points on a handful of clicks. Look at several campaigns before changing strategy.
Compare like seasons. Many New Zealand businesses slow down between Christmas and mid-January, and school holidays, long weekends and Matariki change reading habits. Compare a January send with last January, not with March.
Four ways teams use the export
- Nightly sync to a BI tool so marketing, sales and export managers see email results next to web and sales data.
- Market alerts that flag when clicks from a key export market drop below their usual range.
- CRM enrichment, tagging contacts who clicked a product link so sales can follow up.
- Content testing, comparing which offer or story worked in each country, then localising the next campaign.
For journeys that run on their own, the same thinking applies to automated email statistics, and the in-app campaign reports remain available for anyone who prefers not to code.
A quick example: an exporter mailing three markets
A Marlborough wine producer sends one monthly newsletter to trade buyers in New Zealand, Australia and Europe. Pulling the statistics by country shows that Australian buyers click the new-release links most, while European readers engage mainly with vineyard stories and harvest updates, which in the southern hemisphere arrive in their spring. The next issue keeps one campaign but reorders content by segment, and the send is scheduled so each market receives it in its own morning.
Engagement data is personal information
Once opens and clicks are linked to named contacts, they are personal information under the Privacy Act 2020. Keep API keys secure (IPP 5), do not hold detailed tracking data longer than you need it (IPP 9), and use it for purposes your subscribers would reasonably expect. Mailpro keeps the source data on Swiss-hosted private infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction, and never sells or rents it.
Documentation and resources for developers
All the technical documentation of the Mailpro APIs lives on the developer portal: Email API v2, CRM API v3 and SMS API, described endpoint by endpoint (OpenAPI), in English and five other languages.
- Delivery tracking of transactional emails — every single send returns an identifier;
GET /Send/{id}/Statustells you whether it is queued, sent, delivered, deferred or bounced. In detail. - Webhooks — three directions: Mailpro notifies you (email delivered, bounce, new contact…), your automations call your tools, an external tool triggers an automation. The three types of webhooks · reference.
- Frequently asked questions — authentication, limits, attachments, Zapier / Make / n8n: API & Webhooks FAQ.
