An SMTP relay is set-and-forget for most businesses in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The statistics behind it are what you reach for when something goes wrong: a guest says the confirmation never arrived, a client disputes receiving an invoice, or staff notice that replies have dried up. This page explains what Mailpro records for each SMTP message and how to use it.

What is recorded

  • Sent: your software handed the message to Mailpro, with the time.
  • Delivered: the recipient’s mail server accepted it.
  • Bounced: it was rejected, with the reason code, such as an unknown address or a full mailbox.
  • Opened and clicked: where tracking is enabled.
  • Complaints: where the recipient’s provider reports a spam complaint.

You can search logs by recipient, subject or date. See SMTP server statistics and SMTP message tracking for the full feature set.

Proving delivery

For accountants, lawyers, insurers and credit unions in Kingstown, proof that an invoice or notice reached a client’s server can settle a dispute quickly. A log entry showing the time a message was accepted by the recipient’s server is much stronger than “I’m sure I sent it”. Our article on proving invoice delivery with SMTP logs walks through a real example.

Spotting problems early

Bounces after a website move

If bounces or junk-folder placement jump after you change web host or domain, the usual cause is DNS: SPF, DKIM or DMARC records that were not moved. Fix them before your next busy period.

Bounces from one provider

If mail to one provider, say Outlook addresses, starts bouncing while Gmail is fine, the rejection codes in the log will usually point to the reason. Our FAQ on common SMTP errors decodes the most frequent ones.

Typos at capture

A cluster of hard bounces for addresses like “gmial.com” points to your booking form or front desk, not the relay. Add validation to the form.

Checking in with the seasons

Many Vincentian businesses send most of their transactional mail in the winter tourist season and around events such as Carnival or the Bequia Easter Regatta. Review your SMTP statistics before each busy spell, and after anything that disrupts operations, such as a storm during hurricane season that forced you to change systems or staff.

Time zones in the logs

SVG uses Atlantic Standard Time (UTC−4) all year. When you compare log times with a customer’s complaint from London or Toronto, convert carefully: London is four or five hours ahead, and Toronto is on the same time in summer and one hour behind in winter.

Share reports with clients or managers

If you send email on behalf of clients, for example as a web agency or accountancy practice in Kingstown, white-label statistics reports let you share delivery results under your own name.

Privacy of log data

Logs contain email addresses and subject lines, which are personal data. Mailpro stores them in Switzerland, outside US jurisdiction, and never sells or rents them. That matters when your recipients include European guests covered by GDPR.

For more on the relay itself, see the SMTP server for SVG, or compare with API statistics if you send through the API.
