Merge tags (also called personalization fields or dynamic fields) are placeholders you put in an email that are automatically replaced with each recipient's own data when the email is sent — for example a tag for the first name becomes "Hi Sarah" for one contact and "Hi Marc" for another.
How merge tags work
You insert a tag tied to a contact field (first name, company, city, or any custom field) into the subject or body. At send time, Mailpro fills each copy with that contact's value. Set a fallback (such as "there") so a blank field never leaves an awkward gap. See how dynamic fields work and personalized contact fields.
What you can personalize
Names, locations, purchase history, preferences — anything stored on the contact. Learn more in customizing newsletters with dynamic fields and our email personalization tips.
Why it matters
Personalized emails feel relevant, and relevance lifts opens, clicks, and conversions. Merge tags make true one-to-one personalization possible at scale. Related: personalized email and email automation.
