Kia ora. Whether you run a vineyard cellar door in Central Otago, a trades business in Tauranga, an online store shipping from Christchurch or a charity in Wellington, keeping in touch with customers comes down to the same things: reaching the right people with something useful, at a sensible time, in a way they have agreed to. Mailpro has helped organisations do that since 2001, and this page explains how it fits New Zealand businesses in particular.
Built for the New Zealand rules
Two laws shape marketing by email and text here. The Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007, enforced by the Department of Internal Affairs, requires consent before you send a commercial message, accurate information about who sent it, and a free unsubscribe facility, with opt-outs taking effect within 5 working days. It covers text messages as well as email. The Privacy Act 2020, overseen by the Privacy Commissioner, governs how you collect, store and use the personal information behind your lists, including the new IPP 3A requirements that have applied since 1 May 2026.
Mailpro supports both with consent-friendly sign-up forms, double opt-in, unsubscribe links in every campaign, and contact records that make it easier to answer privacy requests. For a plain-English summary, read email marketing law in New Zealand.
Your data in Switzerland, not in the United States
When a provider stores your customer list, you remain responsible for it under the Privacy Act. Mailpro keeps data on private infrastructure in Switzerland, outside US jurisdiction, encrypts connections with TLS 1.3, and never sells or rents your data. Switzerland has an EU adequacy decision, as does New Zealand, so both are recognised in Europe as providing a high level of data protection. Learn more about why Mailpro hosts in Switzerland.
What you can do with Mailpro
Newsletters and email campaigns
Build newsletters with a drag-and-drop editor or in HTML, starting from more than 600 templates that adapt to phone screens. Personalise with your contacts’ names, regions and interests, segment your list, and schedule each send for NZST or NZDT. Start with creating a newsletter, or plan a year of email campaigns around the New Zealand calendar.
Automated emails
Welcome new subscribers, send birthday offers, remind customers about renewals or bookings, and follow up after a purchase, all without lifting a finger once the journey is set up. Automations keep working over the Christmas and New Year break, when many businesses close. See automated emails.
SMS marketing
Send texts to +64 mobile numbers for reminders, weather updates, last-minute availability and short offers. The same consent and opt-out rules apply as for email, and an unsubscribe must work by reply. In Mailpro’s own customer survey, users rate SMS deliverability 9.8/10. Read more about SMS marketing in New Zealand.
Online forms and surveys
Create sign-up, booking, enquiry and registration forms with privacy notices and unticked consent boxes, and feed responses straight into your lists. Run customer satisfaction, member and event surveys with rating fields and branching. Start with online forms or online surveys.
CRM, SMTP and API
Keep contacts, consent history and engagement in one CRM. Route order confirmations, invoices and website emails through Mailpro’s authenticated SMTP server, or integrate sending, contacts and statistics into your own app with the email API. See the SMTP server page for details.
Made for the Kiwi calendar
New Zealand’s marketing year runs on southern-hemisphere seasons. Christmas falls in summer, followed by the long holiday break; school goes back from late January; Waitangi Day is on 6 February; Easter and ANZAC Day (25 April) fall in autumn; King’s Birthday, Matariki and the ski season arrive in winter; and spring brings daylight saving, Labour Day and the run-up to Christmas. Matariki moves each year (10 July in 2026, 25 June in 2027), so check the date when you plan. Some occasions, such as ANZAC Day and Waitangi Day, call for a thoughtful tone rather than a sale. If your brand uses te reo Māori greetings such as “Kia ora” or “Mānawatia a Matariki”, use them accurately, with macrons.
Timing and time zones
New Zealand is one of the first countries to start each day. NZST is UTC+12, and NZDT (UTC+13) runs from the last Sunday in September to the first Sunday in April. The Chatham Islands are 45 minutes ahead of the mainland. If you also sell to Australia, its east coast is typically two to three hours behind. Mailpro’s scheduling lets you prepare a campaign in advance and send it at the right local time for each audience.
Pricing that suits seasonal businesses
Mailpro is priced by the number of emails or texts you send, not by the number of contacts you store. That suits tourism operators, retailers and event organisers whose sending peaks at certain times of the year: you keep your full list without paying for it in quiet months. New accounts start with 500 free credits, so you can test everything before committing.
