Barbados has a growing community of software developers, from fintech and insurance-tech teams serving the international business sector to agencies building booking platforms for hotels and attractions. When those systems need to send email, synchronise customer lists or trigger text messages, an API is the cleanest way to do it. Mailpro offers REST APIs for email, CRM and SMS, so your application can do in code what a marketer does in the web interface.
What you can do with the Mailpro API
- Send transactional emails such as booking confirmations, receipts, statements and password resets directly from your application, with a delivery status for each message. See transactional email.
- Manage contacts: create, update, tag and unsubscribe contacts from your CRM, store or member database, keeping Mailpro in sync with your source of truth.
- Launch campaigns programmatically, for example a weekly availability update generated from your property management system.
- Retrieve statistics for opens, clicks and bounces by campaign or message, to feed your own dashboards. See API statistics.
- Send SMS to +1-246 and international numbers through the SMS API gateway.
- Receive webhooks when an email is delivered or bounces, or when a new contact subscribes.
Integration examples from Barbados
A hotel booking engine
When a reservation is confirmed, the engine calls the API to send a branded confirmation and adds the guest to a “pre-arrival” list. That list triggers an automation seven days before check-in. If the guest opted in, an SMS on the arrival day shares the check-in time.
A client portal for a corporate-services firm
When a document is uploaded, the portal calls the API to notify the client by email. Delivery status is logged for the compliance file.
An online store
Order and shipping emails go through the API, and customers who ticked the marketing box are synced to a newsletter segment.
API or SMTP?
If your application already speaks SMTP, pointing it at Mailpro’s SMTP server is the quickest route. The API offers more control: contact management, campaign triggers, statistics and webhooks. Our comparison of API vs SMTP helps you choose.
How to get started
- Create a Mailpro account and generate API credentials in your settings.
- Read the developer documentation for the endpoint you need first, usually sending a transactional email or adding a contact.
- Authenticate your sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC so messages from your app reach the inbox.
- Build against a test list, check the delivery status of each message, and set up a webhook for bounces.
- Go live and watch statistics for the first few days.
For low-code teams, the same operations are available through automation platforms such as Zapier, Make and n8n, which suits Barbadian SMEs without a full-time developer.
Security and data protection
API traffic is encrypted with TLS 1.3, and data is hosted in Switzerland on Mailpro’s private infrastructure, outside US jurisdiction. Under the Data Protection Act 2019, your organisation is the data controller and Mailpro is the processor, and the Act expects that relationship to be set out in writing. The Act also limits transfers of personal data outside Barbados to destinations with adequate protection. Switzerland is covered by an EU adequacy decision, which you can reference in your transfer documentation. Keep marketing and transactional flows separate, and sync unsubscribes both ways so an opt-out in one system is respected everywhere. More in email marketing law in Barbados.
Pricing
API sends use the same credits as the web interface, and you pay by messages sent, not by contacts stored. The 500 free credits are enough to build and test an integration.
Documentation and resources for developers
All the technical documentation of the Mailpro APIs lives on the developer portal: Email API v2, CRM API v3 and SMS API, described endpoint by endpoint (OpenAPI), in English and five other languages.
- Delivery tracking of transactional emails — every single send returns an identifier;
GET /Send/{id}/Statustells you whether it is queued, sent, delivered, deferred or bounced. In detail. - Webhooks — three directions: Mailpro notifies you (email delivered, bounce, new contact…), your automations call your tools, an external tool triggers an automation.
