The email and phone fields are special: they are the two unique identifiers that connect a contact to your campaigns and your suppression lists. Editing them works like any other field, but with one important rule — the email value must remain unique within the list, and the phone must follow the international (E.164) format. This guide shows the right way to update both, single-contact and bulk.
Edit the email of a single contact
1. Open Lists → Contacts, find the contact. 2. Click the contact to open the detail card. 3. Click on the email field, type the new value. 4. Save. If the new email already exists in the list, Mailpro asks whether to merge the two records or keep them separate.
Edit the phone of a single contact
1. Same path: contact detail card. 2. Click the mobile field. 3. Type the new number in international format: +<country code><local number> — e.g. +33612345678, no spaces, no dashes, no leading zero. 4. Save.
| Country | Mobile example | Stored as |
|---|---|---|
| France | 06 12 34 56 78 | +33612345678 |
| Germany | 0151 234 56789 | +4915123456789 |
| United Kingdom | 07700 900 123 | +447700900123 |
| United States | (415) 555-0132 | +14155550132 |
| Spain | 612 345 678 | +34612345678 |

Bulk-edit emails or phones
For format normalization (e.g. converting all phones to E.164), the import wizard is the safest tool. Export your list to CSV, fix the column in a spreadsheet, then re-import with the «Update existing contacts» option. Mailpro matches by the existing email and updates other fields without creating duplicates.
NULL or invalid addresses, breaking deliverability. Always export a backup first. What happens to the contact’s history
When you change an email, the contact’s engagement history (opens, clicks, last campaign date) follows the contact — not the email. The new email picks up where the old one left off. Same for phone: SMS history is preserved.
If the email is invalid
Mailpro validates the format on save. Invalid emails (no @, no domain, with spaces) are refused. Disposable email domains (yopmail.com, mailinator.com) are flagged but accepted — you can choose whether to send to them in your campaign settings.
Field-level security and audit
Every email/phone change is logged in the contact’s audit trail with timestamp, user and old/new value. Open the «History» tab on the contact card to see all changes — useful for GDPR data-subject access requests.
Edit email and phone safely
Mailpro’s field manager protects you from typos, duplicates and bad formats while keeping the full history of every change. Read the full edit email and phone fields FAQ and the edit contact field guide.
