A contact field stores a piece of information about a contact — first name, city, language, last purchase date, anything you need for personalization or segmentation. Mailpro ships with the standard fields (email, first name, last name, mobile, etc.) and lets you create up to 30 custom fields per account. Editing a field is fast, but choosing the right field type and structure up front saves a lot of headaches later.

In short: Edit a single contact’s field directly from the contact card. Edit a field for many contacts via the bulk-edit tool. Add a new custom field from the field manager — it then appears on every contact and form.

Edit a field for one contact

1. Open Lists → Contacts, find the contact. 2. Click on the contact to open the detail card. 3. Click on the field you want to change — it becomes editable. 4. Type the new value. 5. Save. The change applies immediately and is reflected in the next campaign.

Edit a field for many contacts (bulk)

For tens or thousands of contacts, use the bulk edit. Filter or search the contacts you want, select them with the master checkbox, click Bulk action → Update field, pick the field and the new value, confirm. Mailpro processes the change in seconds and logs it in the audit trail.

Standard fields vs custom fields

Field typeExamplesEditable per contactEditable for all
StandardEmail, first name, last name, mobile, cityYesMass-update via bulk
Custom (text)language, sector, salespersonYesMass-update via bulk
Custom (date)signup_date, last_purchase_dateYesMass-update via bulk
Custom (number)total_purchase, pointsYesMass-update via bulk
Custom (boolean)is_vip, has_consentYesMass-update via bulk

Create or rename a custom field

Open Lists → Field manager. Click New field, give it a name (lowercase, no spaces — e.g. signup_source), pick the type (text, date, number, boolean) and save. The field is now available on every contact and every subscription form. To rename: click the field, change the label and save — the internal identifier stays the same so existing personalizations and segments keep working.

Important: Do not change the type of a custom field after data has been entered. Switching from text to date can wipe values that don’t match the new format. Always create a new field if you need a different type.

Use the field in personalization and segmentation

Once a field exists, you can: insert it in any email/SMS using the merge tag %%fieldname%%, filter contacts by it in a segment, trigger automations based on its value, and export it in CSV reports.
