Malta has a strong cluster of software-driven businesses: online gaming operators and their suppliers, payment and fintech firms, and travel platforms serving visitors to the islands. These teams want email as a service they can call from code, not a separate tool to log into. Mailpro’s email API lets them do just that.

What the API does

  • Send transactional email: registration confirmations, password resets, receipts and alerts.
  • Trigger campaigns: send a prepared newsletter to a list or segment from your own system.
  • Manage contacts: add, update, tag and unsubscribe contacts, keeping Mailpro in sync with your platform.
  • Retrieve statistics: pull delivery, open and click data into your dashboards.
  • Receive events: use webhooks to receive delivery and engagement events as they happen.

Technical details are on the Mailpro API page, and the API video shows a first call.

Use cases in Malta

Gaming platforms

Sync player consent and self-exclusion status via the API so that marketing sends automatically exclude anyone who should not receive them. Transactional mail, such as verification, continues as normal.

Fintech and payments

Send transaction notices and security alerts, with TLS 1.3 protecting the connection and data held on private Swiss infrastructure.

Travel and hospitality

Push new bookings into a contact list and trigger a pre-arrival automation, including SMS for arrival-day messages to +356 or international numbers.

Data protection for Maltese controllers

Under GDPR, your email provider is a processor, and where it stores data matters. Mailpro’s hosting is in Switzerland, covered by an EU adequacy decision, and outside US jurisdiction, so there is no need for standard contractual clauses for that hosting. Marketing messages sent through the API remain subject to Malta’s S.L. 586.01: keep consent flags in sync so only opted-in contacts receive promotions. The FAQ on US law and email data explains why jurisdiction matters.

Getting started with the API

  1. Create an API key in your Mailpro account and store it securely, never in client-side code.
  2. Make a test call to add a contact to a list.
  3. Send a test transactional email to yourself.
  4. Configure a webhook endpoint to receive events.
  5. Authenticate your sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC before going live.

Keep separate keys for development and production, and rotate them if a team member leaves. For AI-driven workflows, see how to send transactional emails from an AI agent via the API.

Choosing API or SMTP

If your application already speaks SMTP, the relay may be quicker to adopt. If you want contact management, statistics and webhooks, the API offers more. Read API vs SMTP for Maltese teams, and see API statistics for monitoring.
