A segment is a saved subset of your contact list, defined by rules you choose: language, last open date, city, custom fields, purchase history, anything you can express as a filter. Segments let you stop blasting the same email to everyone and start sending the right message to the right people — the single biggest lever for engagement and revenue from email.

Why it matters: Segmented campaigns generate, on average, 30–50% higher open rates and 60–100% higher click rates than unsegmented blasts. Same content, same effort, dramatically better results.

Create a segment in 5 steps

1. Open Lists → Segments in your Mailpro dashboard. 2. Click New segment. 3. Pick the source list (or several lists). 4. Add filter rules with the visual builder — combine them with AND/OR logic. 5. Save with a clear name (e.g. «EN subscribers active in 30 days»).

The most useful segment types

SegmentFilter logicUse case
Engaged subscribersOpened OR clicked in the last 30 daysSend the high-value campaign
Re-engagementDid NOT open in the last 60–90 daysWin-back series before suppression
Language / regionCustom field language = XLocalized content

Cart abandonersCustom field cart_value > 0 last 7 daysRecovery sequence
New subscribersSubscribed in the last 7 daysWelcome series

How segment rules combine

Mailpro lets you nest AND/OR groups, so a segment can be: (language = EN) AND ((last_open < 30 days) OR (purchase_total > 100)). The visual builder shows the nesting clearly and previews the resulting count in real time.

Important: Segments are dynamic by default — they re-evaluate at send time. A subscriber who matches today might not tomorrow. If you want a frozen list, export the segment to a static list before sending.

Sending to a segment

From any campaign, in the Recipients step, choose «Send to segment» instead of «Send to list». Mailpro counts the matching contacts in real time so you see the exact reach before scheduling.

Measuring segment performance

The campaign report breaks down opens, clicks and conversions per segment. After 3–4 sends you see which segments deliver the best ROI and which need redefinition. See measuring segmentation.

Send the right message to the right people

Mailpro’s email segmentation visual builder makes it easy to slice your list any way that matters. Watch the how to create segments tutorial and read the full create segment FAQ.
